Animal Farm? Zimbabwe a country which once thrived in the southern continent of Africa, blessed with natural mineral resources and soil for agriculture like al African nationals, it used to puzzle me until I began asking questions.
The answer is a simple one. The Zimbabwean government is modelled after Animal Farm, a novel written by George Orwell. ZANU PF looted all the land and farms, claiming that the land redistribution would be of benefit to all citizens. The only persons who have benefited from this is those who are loyal to ZANU PF. The leader of Zimbabwe has over 50 farms and appoints his family members in government positions which are not qualified to hold. The Zimbabwean government led by Emerson Mnangagnwa is an oppressive regime, ZANU PF party is looting all the natural resources and the international Aid which was meant to relief the Zimbabweans who are suffering in famine. The country is being mismanaged by a totalitarian regime, which doesn’t tolerate any opposition or criticism. ZANU PF rules with an iron fist, anyone who dare speak the truth simply disappears or imprisoned without bail. The Zimbabwean people have suffered for 45 years, there is no independence to celebrate, people of Zimbabwe must wake up and resist this evil corrupted totalitarian government. #ZANUPFMUSTGO |

On April 18, Zimbabwe is "apparently" commemorating its forty-five years of freedom from the colonial rule as Independence Day draws near. Emmerson Mnangagwa became president when Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's long-time leader who had ruled since the country's independence in 1980, was overthrown by a military coup. However, 45 years later, many Zimbabweans feel there is little to celebrate. Instead of prosperity and freedom, the country has been plagued by economic collapse, political repression, and widespread corruption, leaving citizens disillusioned with the promises of independence. President Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed to bring meaningful reform. The economy remains in shambles, with unemployment soaring, currency instability, and basic services like healthcare and education in decline. Political leaders and activists jailed and elections marred by allegations of fraud. The only people who are enjoying independence in Zimbabwe are Mnangagwa and his corrupt Zanu-Pf government, who are looting the country’s funds for their gain and pleasure. For ordinary Zimbabweans, independence has not translated into better lives. The dream of a free, prosperous Zimbabwe remains unfulfilled, leaving citizens to ever wonder whether true liberation was ever achieved. After 45 years, there's no independence to celebrate only a legacy of broken promises. |

No 45 years of independence Almost 2 generations have their lives wasted with Zanu-PF as we are still held in captivity. There's no independence to celebrate where a nation has destroyed livelihoods, we have lost a lot of lives either politically or mismanagement, corruption is at it's highest and there's no rule of law, even worse there is no respect to the constitution. There is no medicine in main hospitals and roads are a death trap.I wonder why we should celebrate independence whilst we are suffocated by the regime. There are laws put in place each day just to protect a few elite members of the ruling party at the cost of more than 16 million Zimbabweans. We'll celebrate independence one day when Zanu-PF is gone.

45 years of rhetoric - No sign of independence It’s been 45 years since Zimbabwe gained independence. 45 years! Yet for millions of Zimbabweans, there is nothing to celebrate. What should have been a moment of national pride is overshadowed by decades of misrule, corruption, and betrayal by those who claims to be liberators. The rot began with Robert Mugabe, who turned a once-promising nation into a repressive state marked by economic collapse, human rights abuses, and cronyism. His violent, authoritarian grip destroyed Zimbabwe’s economy and institutions, pushing millions into poverty and forcing many to flee the country in search of a better life. When Emmerson Mnangagwa took over in 2017, there was a flicker of hope. He promised reforms. He promised new era. Instead, he doubled down on repression, silenced critics, rigged elections, and allowed corruption to flourish to unprecedented levels. The state captures wealth while ordinary Zimbabweans suffer under extreme inflation, unemployment, and poor healthcare. Zimbabwe’s continued isolation from the Commonwealth, due to its refusal to implement meaningful democratic reforms, is more than justified. International pressure—through targeted sanctions on corrupt elites and calls for accountability—must continue and intensify. These are not sanctions on ordinary people, but on those who loot the nation and abuse power. But international pressure alone is not enough. Voices of activists—inside and outside Zimbabwe—must grow louder. Protests, petitions, public campaigns, and social media movements are critical in keeping the spotlight on the regime’s abuses. The regime fear exposure and pressure, and activists play a vital role in forcing the world to pay attention. After 45 years, Zimbabwe deserves better, better than Mnangagwa and his cronies. The people deserve freedom, dignity, and real independence—not just from colonialism, but from tyranny in all its forms. As Chief Ndiweni said in London in December 2024, ‘It is justice that defines democracy and peace’ While we celebrate the sacrifices made by those who died trying to deliver independence, let’s not forget to expose those that survived but only to stop independence from getting to you and me. That is the only way we can get democracy and peace |

A BETRAYAL AGAINST THE PROMISE OF INDEPENDENCE!
Zimbabwe 🇿🇼 independence. There's nothing to celebrate. There's so much evil taking place in Zimbabwe. Many Christian leaders are silent, afraid, to be arrested, tortured, killed, and kidnapped for speaking against the regime.

THE FORTY-FIVE YEARS of OPPRESSION and FEAR Fooled for Political Gains and Mileage ZIMBABWE marks forty-five (45) years of independence after a long struggle fighting against the colonial rule. On April 18th, every year is a significant historical national day Zimbabweans commemorate world over in appreciation of all those who sacrificed for the benefit to be free. The moral excitement and recognition of the Independence Day has faded away over the years with the majority expressing displeasure with the manner of governance implemented. There is a paradigm shift deviating to the principles of the liberation struggle which are democracy, rule of law, freedom, the right to vote, to uphold the constitution, just to name a few. Many questions have been asked with regards to the significance of the Zimbabwe Independence. What is Independence? Independence is the dawn of a new era of freedom. According to Cambridge Dictionary, Independence is the quality or state of being independent. The freedom and ability to be self-sustainable The importance of Independence is being free from slavery. 1980 Independence, being the first of its kind, was mostly celebrated overwhelmingly as high expectations were looming. At the eve of Independence, the then Prince Charles Now King Charles came to Zimbabwe for the Flags where he lowered the Union Jack, and the Zimbabwe Flag was raised for the first time in our history. It was a fabulous occasion, and the event was graced by Bob Marley and the Wailers performing the hit song, Zimbabwe specifically composed for Zimbabwe Independence at Rufaro stadium in Mbare. The lyrics of the song were written by the late Dr Gibson Mandishona. I was privileged to be there. I remember the excitement in 1979 when it was announced that the war was over and there was a cease fire between the Rhodesian forces and ZANLA/ZIPRA Forces. All generations had great hopes, looking forward to a changed system, from oppression to freedom, but little was known that the high hopes would turn to misery. When the freedom fighter came back, not to fight but for the first time in coming to a free Zimbabwe, they were joyful, and the feeling was mutual with the Masses. Those days we could be seen dancing to different tunes related to the struggle and their home coming. One of the songs remembered vividly well was The Boys Are Back in Town, a 1976 hard rock and roll hit song from Thin Lizzy. Some of the well celebrated musicians at the time were Thomas Mapfumo and Oliver Mtukudzi. I remember jumping in one of the Salisbury, (now Harare) buses going to Zimbabwe ground in Highfields to welcome “Father Zimbabwe” Joshua Nkomo who came first before Robert Gabriel Mugabe to address the Nation. They were both allocated different days. Dr Joshua Nkomo led ZAPU and Gabriel Mugabe led ZANU. What was experienced during the colonial era is what we have been experiencing with both previous and current administrations, a shameful BLACK to BLACK Oppression! There is too much intimidation and suffering of the people whilst a few are the beneficiaries of the Zimbabwe Independence. Even those who fought to liberate the country are still languishing in poverty. The regime has no plan at all to cater for the citizens. The country is run like a tack shop. There is no accountability and transparency as witnessed with the deteriorating infrastructures and lack of managing the health care system causing the high rate of deaths in this sector. Bad governance is the order of the day and CHANGE is necessary! |

45 years of Independence by Nkala Cannicious ZAPU Europe Provincial secretary. It comes at a time where the question is do we celebrate because it's worth celebrating the answers come with more questions than clarity. The struggle the war we lost dedicated cadres and people that gave their lives for a better life for all as per the ZAPU call to give a better life to all . Alas the better never came , it was from the frying pan to the fire . 1980 elections we still doubt the results hoping there was a way to verify that . The Gukurhawundi or the Genocide called Gukurhawundi carried to create a one party state ZAPU as a party and Zimbabweans at large became victims of that mess. The Commissions done Chijikawusiku Commission and many other countless un published commissions to the recent Motlante Commission. The countless victimisation of people disappearance of all people now not tribally but to anyone wanting state power or criticising the status quo . The dream of a Zimbabwean child to have a 45 years celebration in peace for a lot to celebrate we have but where to celebrate when our so called leader are the the danger now wanting to be celebrated not for all to celebrate. Independence or dependence as the meaning are different. I as a an adult now early 40s find nothing to celebrate with the current situation as the future is very much not clear but l will fight on always remember those who sacrificed for us to be here . My call to all let's be human rights defenders never stop the revolution nothing can stop the revolution bit delay yes they can but we are close now yo that final step play your part don't watch from the side . |

45 Years going Nowhere! The enactment of the Private Voluntary Organisations (PVO) Amendment Bill in Zimbabwe on April 11, 2025, has indeed raised significant concerns about the erosion of democratic space. The bill, signed into law by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, grants the government extensive powers to regulate NGOs, including the ability to oversee their operations and potentially limit their activities. Critics, including civil society groups, argue it stifles independent voices and restricts freedoms of association and expression, further shrinking civic space in the country. There is no Democracy in Zimbabwe |

Zimbabwe marked 45 years of independence in 2025, but many citizens feel there is little to celebrate due to ongoing crises:
Despite independence from colonial rule, Zimbabwe remains trapped in economic and political turmoil, leaving many citizens disillusioned. Without major reforms or leadership change, true freedom and prosperity remain out of reach. |

Tomorrow the 18th of April 2025 marks 45 years, since Zimbabwe attained political independence from Britain, yet the ordinary citizen is suffering and is not enjoying the fruits of this independence. People are not free to express themselves without looking over their shoulders, because they’re afraid of state security agents, who have always descended on ordinary citizens who speaks their mind to what is happening country regarding human rights, election rigging , lack of basic infrastructure like good roads , good health care system, good reticulation systems concerning our water and electricity which is always not available most of the time. The government of Zimbabwe has failed to Curb corruption and Zimbabwe has experienced poverty yet it has got an abundance of minerals and natural resources and this has necessitated the majority of citizens to migrate to other countries who have a better standard of living such as our neighbouring countries like South Africa, Botswana etc and internationally United kingdom, Australia and United States to name but a few ,Zimbabwe with all its resources continues to be the laughing stock of the world yet it has got everything yet it’s now being classified as one of the poorest countries in the world. Zimbabwe my beloved country it needs people who can take the country forward and it’s not ZANU PF led government but someone who has got a different mentality and someone who doesn’t not tolerate corruption, nepotism but someone who wants to serve the people as servant leadership |
